Consult with manual osteopath, Spencer Jean, DO, DO(MP), MBA from the comfort of your own home using our telehealth or virtual care services. Utilizing a secure HIPAA compliance platform our patient’s can consult remotely. It’s easy to use and no software installation is required.

ABOUT VIRTUAL CARE

Access to healthcare services can my all the difference in the world – especially during these unprecedented times. The way of the world has changed, and we must adapt with it. With in-person services not currently available, we are still able to provide the highest quality of care through our telehealth or virtual care services at a distance.

Our telehealth services are easy to use, secure, safe and convenient.

HOW IT WORKS

Prior to your appointment, you will receive an email or text link to your appointment session. This will enable both audio and video connection between you and the clinician. Any documentation that you need to review and complete prior to your appointment will be sent to you ahead of time.

If at any time during the session, we believe that an in-person appointment is urgent, we will provide appropriate guidance and referrals.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR TELEHEALTH OR VIRTUAL CONSULTATION

  1. At the beginning of your telehealth consultation, the clinician will review your case, obtain consent to participate in the session via the secure platform.
  2. Just like an in-person consultation, the clinician will listen to the patient’s chief complaint, concerns and current status.
  3. The clinician will then perform an assessment. The patient may be asked to perform specific movements or orthopedic tests to help determine the osteopathic diagnosis.
  4. Once the clinician is confident in the proper diagnosis, a treatment plan will be recommended. The treatment plan can include but is not limited to the following:
    1. A thorough explanation of the condition/ injury.
    2. What to expect and the prognosis.
    3. A treatment plan which you can provide in the comfort of your home using the tools the patient has available such as electrotherapy, rest/activity, ice/heat, self therapy mobilizations, and therapeutic exercises.
  5. Any questions the patient may have will be answered to the best of our ability.
  6. Once the patient and the clinician have agreed upon the provided treatment plan, the clinician will recommend any necessary follow up appointments which will be scheduled accordingly.
  7. After the consultation has completed, the clinician will email the documented treatment plan to the patient which will entail a full description of the condition being treated, the detailed treatment plan provided, a pdf download of the therapeutic exercises prescribed as well as a direct link to review the video of the therapeutic exercises prescribed.

TELEHEALTH FEES AND PAYMENT

Telehealth Consultation: $50.00 Including HST.

  1. Will my Extended Health Insurance Plan pay for telehealth visits?
    1. At the time, the following insurance companies have published that they will reimburse telehealth/ virtual osteopathic care: Manulife, Sunlife.
    2. If your insurance company has not published this coverage information, it is the patient’s responsibility to contact their insurance provider to inquire about their coverage and policy.
    3. Currently, no direct billing is available.
    4. You must reside in Ontario to be reimbursed by your insurance company.
  2. How is payment processed?
    1. Payment will be provided prior to the consultation via PayPal. A direct link to process payment will be emailed to you at the time of appointment confirmation.
    2. Once processed, a receipt will be emailed to the patient which can be used to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement AFTER your appointment.

We encourage patients to use a desktop computer or laptop with a web camera if possible; however, it is possible to use a mobile device. No software downloads are needed.

Patients which are already under the direct care of our clinic are the best candidates for telehealth services; however, we are accepting new patient consultations. If we deem that your condition is too complex or require additional diagnostics, we will refer you to the appropriate professional.

If we deem that you require a specific medical device or orthopedic support product such as an orthopedic brace or TENs machine, depending on the location of the patient we will either personally and safely deliver the product once payment is accepted or will mail the product to your residence. To get reimbursed for the product through your insurance a medical prescription from a medical doctor will still be required which can be safely obtained through several government provided telehealth services which is covered under OHIP.
